Light Is important. Whether you are working or decompressing after a long day, make sure the light in your space is there by deliberate choice. There are do's and dont's to ensure that you are as happy, healthy, and productive as you deserve.
Studies show that natural light is best for almost any occasion. Natural and reflected sunlight carries natural tones without any artificial feelings or effects. Be sure to compose your primary workspace next to a window, making sure you have ample light to prevent eye strain.
Avoid using LED lights excessively or around bedtime. While LED lights are versatile, low-cost, and therefore tempting, they carry wavelengths in the blue spectrum and can have an effect upon your physiology and your sleep patterns. The same can be said of most devices with screens. Yes, unfortunately that includes your phone and whatever screen you use to enjoy Netflix.
Exposure to blue light, as emitted by LED lights and screens, can and will have an effect upon your brain's natural production of melatonin and may alter your ability to fall or stay asleep. Do some research here and consider appropriate options.
How to optimize light for yourself:
- Employ Ample Natural Light
- Stick to Warm, Inviting Tones
- Govern Exposure to Blue Light
- Make it Your Own
Your choices in lighting should really be about you. Quirky lamps and elegant fixtures aside, make sure that you ultimately feel relaxed and at home in your manicured space.
“You have to find what sparks a light in you so that you in your own way can illuminate the world.”
― Oprah Winfrey
